Africatown Community Land Trust, the Black Community Impact Alliance, Byrd Barr Place, and Capitol Hill Housing invite the community to celebrate with us as we open the historic Liberty Bank Building on March 23, 2019.
Â
The glorious new building, built on the site of the first African American-owned bank in the Pacific Northwest, provides 115 affordable homes and affordable retail space for three local minority-owned businesses.
Â
The Liberty Bank Building was created through the dedication and support of many community members and organizations with deep roots in Seattle's Central District. The celebration will reflect our community by bringing together the neighbors, friends, artists, business owners and community leaders who have contributed to this momentous project. It is free and open to the public - all we ask is that you RSVP!
Â
Speakers and performers from the community begin a brief program promptly at 11:30. Guided tours of the Liberty Bank Building will take place in the last hour of the event (tour slots now full).
During the final hour of the Ribbon Cutting event, we'll be offering tours of the Liberty Bank Building to community members who have signed up in advance.
If you didn't get a chance to sign up, don't worry! You'll still be able to see the ground floor of the building, including the incredible art installations. In addition, CHH will be giving tours to small groups in the future.
You can also take a quick virtual tour of the building here!
24th Ave will be closed between E Union St. and E Pike St. to have plenty of room for the festivities. There is some nearby street parking, or consider public transit. Metro bus route 2 runs right by the building, and other bus lines run nearby. To plan your trip, visit Metro's Trip Planner website.
